Após uma actualização do Ubuntu 12.04, que actualizou os driveres da Nvidia para os mais recentes 304.43, o ficheiro etc/x11/xorg.conf passou a ser ignorado no arranque do sistema.

Neste ficheiro, está criado uma configuração para 2 monitores, que eu sempre utilizei até esta actualização.

Já apaguei este ficheiro e todos os que encontrei com o mesmo nome e gerei outro ficheiro novo, pela linha de comando. Já o fiz de 2 modos diferentes:

1º modo
sudo nvidia-xconfig


2º modo
sudo nvidia-settings


Mas sempre que reinicio o computador fico com os ecrãs sobrepostos

Se abrir o ficheiro etc/x11/xorg.conf verifico, que nada foi alterado no mesmo e que continua igual á configuração original.

Altero de novo, as configurações, em nvidia x server settings e fico com tudo a funcionar bem até ao próximo reboot, em que tenho de voltar a configurar de novo os ecrãs, para ter o que pretendo :medo:

Obrigado pela dica, mas resolvi instalar o Ubuntu 12.04 pela 3ª vez desde que me aventurei no Linux em Maio deste Ano...

Já estou á 2 dias a instalar de novo tudo o que perdi grrrr

Não existe nada no Ubuntu, tipo os pontos de restauro do windows?

Utilizar o Ubuntu com duas partições resolve qualquer problema em termos de formatações:
Aparte disso, fazer backups integrais das partições poderão ser outra forma de solucionar essa necessidade de voltar a determinados pontos históricos. Esses backups podem ser feitos de forma muito eficaz através do Clonezilla ;)

Eu instalei sempre o ubuntu com as partições separadas, conforme o tutorial http://ubuntued.info/como-instalar-o-ubuntu-12-04-precise-pangolin-e-primeiros-passos

Eu utilizei o tutorial que mencionou para instalar o ubuntu de novo, mas fiquei sem todos os programas que tinha instalado... pelo que percebi só recuperamos as configurações que tinhamos.

Assim sendo tive mesmo que instalar tudo de novo...

Já andava a algum tempo para ver como poderia fazer uma cópia de segurança, mas ainda não me tinha dedicado a isso, mas desta vez é uma proiridade assim que o sistema estiver todo configurado, como eu quero 8)
